Craigslist's phone verification systemCraigslist has implemented a phone verification system that will verify your legitimate phone number first before your ad would go live. They do this to reduce, if not totally eliminate, the number of spam posts that is circulating around the Craigslist website. It is annoying to browse through the different ads on Craigslist and see lots of spam ads being posted that either promotes scam websites or are just simply worthless. What's worse, you get to see the same type of ads over and over again as if the poster of these ads has nothing else to do. It annoys a lot of people and it caught the attention of the Craigslist people. For this reason, the phone verification system has been implemented to make these nuisance posts become a thing of the past. Every time you post an ad on Craigslist, it will ask you to verify yourself through phone verification. You type your phone number and you'll receive a phone call where you'll hear an automated voice repeating a verification code which you would then need to enter so your posts would be visible on the Craigslist website. If your post has been flagged then your phone number would be blacklisted as well. Email verification is no longer enough as anyone can easily create a new email address in less than a minute and every email address does not cost you a thing. For phone verification, it's not as easy anymore as each phone number are not disposable and will cost you money if you wish to change it. Several categories on Craigslist already use this system and other categories would soon follow. This is not intended to irritate the ad posters but it's intended to protect the buyers and to keep the website spam-free. |
